5 Steps to Great Leadership

5 Steps to Great Leadership

Recently, I was in a meeting with a group of really smart coaches. One of them shared these 5 Steps of Great Leadership. No-one in the group could find the citation or an attribution for these steps. So if you know where they came from, please share in the comments below.

But in the meantime, I had to share these brilliant steps with my community here, so here you go:

1. Noticing – This is such a great first step of leadership. Notice what is around you, what’s within you, and pay attention to what you’re bringing to situations.

2. Accepting Reality – This is the hardest one for me, and for many other. Stop wishing things were different. Effective leaders work with the reality in front of them.

3. Having a Vision – Where are you going? Define the destination before planning the journey.

4 Moving at a Sustainable Pace – Burnout doesn’t serve you or your team. Set a pace that both you and your team can sustain.

5. Taking Responsibility – Whether or not it’s your fault, own your part and lead with accountability.

Great leadership isn’t about moving the fastest—it’s about moving with clarity, resilience, and purpose. Which of these steps do you need to focus on most?
